Mackay Country

Welcome to Mackay Country – an area of natural unspoiled beauty, rich heritage & history in north-west Scotland

Mackay Country, the area known from at least the 11th century onwards as the Province of Strathnaver, was absorbed into what is now known as the County of Sutherland in the 19th century. It was the traditional homeland of the Mackay clan, and the name is still very common in the area today.

This is wild country and beautiful, don't rush it

The northwest corner of the British mainland is the classic Scottish Highlands 

Mackay Country is the area in North West Sutherland comprising the land formerly known as the Province of Strathnaver, homeland of the Clan Mackay.

Mackay Country has always been within the medieval province of Strathnaver, 

Mackay Country or, Dùthaich Mhic Aoidh, comprises the communities in the north west corner of Sutherland, Scotland.  The parishes of Eddrachilles, Durness, Tongue and Farr make up Mackay Country today.
